Political Education And Critical Empowerment (PEACE) Project

In 2014, the nation of Indonesia will implement a new five-year celebration of democracy.  This will happen during the 2014 event of General Election (Election), election of the new legislators, the president and vice-president, where all the Indonesian people who already have the right to vote are invited to participate actively in determining their representatives as the nation's leader for the next five years.

However, it cannot be denied that some of the people (voters) are skeptical about politics. The reasons are diverse and ranging from the mentality of lazy people, to the ones who do not care about politics and finally to the ones that are completely skeptical about politics and elections. So, do not be surprised if a lot of people will choose not to vote (become non-voters) in each election campaign.  In fact, from time to time, the number of abstention person is increasing, and every time the election results are showing that the number of people who don’t vote it’s bigger than the number of people who vote.

Intelligent Voters for Quality Elections.

 We need to make real efforts to help more people to become fully aware about their choice as voters. If they know the right information about political parties and candidates, they can contest the election (each in his electoral district). If they know the quality of the president and vice-president who would lead the nation for the next years they will be able to become agents of clean elections and integrity.

Society must be excited to be involved in politics or political activities, to be willing to participate actively in democracy and any implementation that will affect the quality of life.

Our hope is that through this program, the voters will have a firm political stance in the 2014 election with intelligent aspirations. In addition, voters are expected to reject the image politics and political money practices. This rejection is expected to be a common cause, which will be echoed by many groups of people, so there will be a lot of intelligent voters that will produce a quality election.

As for some of the strategic activities that will be implemented, include:

(1) Coordination and synergy of activities with various stakeholders, especially KPU (Commission of General Election);

 (2) Political education for the beneficiary groups (especially women) are scattered in Klaten, Sragen, and the city of Solo,

(3) Political education creative campaigns through various media,

 (4) Optimize the use of media and the Media Center Online - CIE 'Medco', through web sites and social media (YouTube, FB, Twitter);

(5) In addition, it will be also pursued an intense dissemination of activities to the mass media (print and electronic) both locally and nationally, so that the program echo effect will be felt more widely and will reach more targets.

The need for active involvement of all parties

This program it is a program of political education for the people regarding the 2014 elections. This program is initiated by Insan Sembada Foundation (YIS) and is aimed to support the growing number of critical and intelligent voters in three districts / cities. The targets to be achieved include:

1.  Increase the capacity of the community to become critical and intelligent voting community;
2.  Improving access to information regarding the 2014 elections for the wider community and develop a medium of communication, information, and education (IEC) through a variety of media, both offline and online; 
3.  Increase the participation of the community and enable the people to portray themselves as Ambassador Election (agents of change) that encourages the participation of voters in each region.

Similarly PEACE programs wore announced. Support and cooperation of the various stakeholders will help to accelerate the implementation and achievements of the program.

 We are open to discussions related to the future development of this program. We hope that we all are together as a society and hopefully this time, the 2014 election will be a milestone in the rise of the Indonesian nation in an effort to improve the life for all the people of Indonesia, without exception.
